The Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL) at National Law University Jodhpur has announced the 9th Gary B. Born Essay Competition on International Arbitration 2026, encouraging students to engage with contemporary issues in international arbitration.
Themes
Participants may write on any one of the following themes:

The Reconfiguration of Party Autonomy in International Arbitration

Examining the Scope of Interim Reliefs in Arbitral Proceedings

Arbitrability of Public–Private Partnership Disputes
Eligibility

Open to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate law programmes worldwide.

Students graduating in 2025 or those set to enrol in a postgraduate law programme for 2025–26 are also eligible.
Submission Guidelines

Word limit: 4000–6000 words (including footnotes)

Abstract: Up to 250 words

Language: English

Co-authorship allowed (maximum two authors)

Maximum plagiarism limit: 15% and AI usage limit: 20%

The essay must be original and unpublished.

1st Prize: USD 400 + Letter of Appreciation + Signed book by Gary B. Born + Consideration for publication in IJAL
