Legal Education is the education of individuals in the principles, practices and the theory of law. It may be consider for a lot of reasons including to provide the knowledge and important skills that are necessary for admission to legal practice in a particular jurisdiction. It also provides a great knowledge to those working in other professions such as politics or business. Legal education plays a vital role in providing the lawyers with advanced training and greater specialization, as well as update lawyers on recent development in the law.
Legal Education includes a lot of programs such as: –
- Primary degrees in law, which may be studied at either undergraduate level or graduate level.
- Advanced academic degrees in law, such as masters and doctoral degrees.
- Practice and training course those are required for the betterment of a lawyer.
- Continuing Legal Education that do not lead to a qualification but provides practicing lawyers with updates on recent legal developments.
Legal Education in India: – The Bar council of India direct and manage the quality of legal education in India. Law degrees in indie are granted and conferred in terms of the Advocates Act, 1961 which is a law passed by the parliament both on the aspect of legal education and conduct of legal profession. Various universities and specialized national law colleges provide Law graduate degrees through various law schools.
In India law can be studied as LL.B (Bachelors of laws), a three-year graduate degree after completion of Bachelor’s degree. On the other hand after standard 12 you can join an integrated five year law courses which provides option of B.ALL.B or B.B.A.LL.B or B.Sc.LL.B. in India legal education for specific branches of law also provides Business law, property law, Taxation law, Family law, Human rights and legal awareness and many more.
Continuing Legal Education makes sure that legal reforms and judicial reforms come up with changing action and orientation of lawyers as well as citizen. Legal education is the most crucial party of legal and judicial reform planning that are connecting the rule of law and showing a country’s social values.
Legal education builds up professionalism, leadership quality, build confidence, solidarity and power for further reforms. The performance of every legal professional improves service quality and also boosts public respect. The legal profession contributes the courts and the agencies before which we need a high level of accomplishment and which cannot be carry on without regular contribution in seminars, workshops, webinars and many other programs, as it helps the lawyers with evolution in their career. Law is one of the few professions that allow the newcomer to start practicing in the courts.
Legal Education Institutes: – Private universities played a vital role in exploring the changes in legal education over last decades. They tried to improve the quality of legal education in India. On the other side of the coin National law schools placed importance on specialized learning. Many institutions have focused on lecture method as well as created many interactive and innovative methods of learning. Law schools in India have a engrossing method of practical learning know as moot courts which has made legal education more practical, behavioral and interesting for the students. The importance of co-curricular activities like seminar, workshops etc. have now become important part of the course. Internship during the course is very crucial for a law student, as it improves their experience of working.
Importance of Legal Education: – Legal education is a wide ranging concept. It includes the profession which is practiced in court of law, in law research, law training and law teaching and law administration in different branches where law plays a crucial role. It impose a sense of equality before law. The level of bar and bench is the image of the quality and excellence of legal education earn in law school. Knowledge of law can be increases, if you understand the daily activities of the state. The importance of legal education cannot exaggerate in a democratic society. It is mandatory duty of everyone to know the law of the state as you cannot ignore the law. Hence, legal education not only provides sufficient lawyers but also influences the citizens to know their rights and duties.
Aims of Legal Education: –
- To train students for legal profession.
- To prepare the students to solve any case.
- A legal education provides opportunities to the brilliant students and helps them in their growth and improvement.
- To introduce students with all legal rules and to provide them sufficient education to apply these rules.
- To figure out the right path for future development of the students.
- To develop idea and to understand the problems of society and to impose values and attitudes.
- To improve various skill and knowledge needed to dissolve the problem in the society.
- To give opportunity and chance to the society especially in the group that are underprivileged.
Conclusion: – Legal education in India is going through a very vital phase. India has the largest population of lawyers in the world. The new generation law school plays a supreme role maintain the level of legal education in India. Hence, the structure of legal education is becoming more and more particular as was imagined by the well wishers of the legal profession. [1]
