About the Course :

Consumer law governs the relationship between consumer and seller/service provider. Consumer seeks to maximize its utility by picking up the best option and seller seeks to maximize his profit by offering to sell his product at the best price. The law tries to balance this conflicting interest. Consumer protection is as old as the civilization. However, over a period of time, the laws of consumer protection have undergone significant changes. The application and awareness of consumer law is gaining momentum for several reasons including changing nature of the market, rapidly increasing variety of goods and services, growing size and complexity of production and distribution system and high level of sophistication in marketing and selling practices. The consumer contract not only affects the individual buyer and seller but collectively these contracts have fundamental implication for the economy as a whole. The objective of the course is to provide an overview of consumer laws and policies by analyzing the relevant laws and jurisprudence developed by the Supreme Court and Consumer Forum.
