About the Seminar

For ages, in the name of tradition and culture, women are subjected to violence. They are deprived of the reasonable standard of living, access to decent work and public services, the right to leisure and rest. Child marriages are still the norm in many areas, women and girls are trafficked into forced labour and sex slavery.

They are denied access to education and political participation, and a section is trapped in conflicts where rape is perpetrated as a weapon of war. The instances of death related to pregnancy and childbirth are high, and women are thwarted from making personal choices in their private lives.

Regardless of the strides made by women’s rights movement over the world, women’s fear of violence is still on the rise and continues to infringe their basic rights and prevents them from living fulfilled and equal lives. They are still denied control over their bodies leading to women’s economic, political, social and sexual subordination.

Consequently, it becomes imperative to work towards the realization of women’s empowerment and gender equality protecting the rights and improving the lives of women and girls on the ground. Hence, the aim of this seminar is to provide a platform to deliberate various conventional and contemporary issues challenging the protection of women’s rights.
