About the Publication
New Horizons of Justice: Navigating the Legal Landscape of Artificial Intelligence is an edited academic reference volume examining the legal, regulatory, judicial, policy, and socio-legal dimensions of artificial intelligence.
The volume focuses particularly on developments in India and the Global South, while welcoming comparative perspectives that illuminate Indian legal and policy questions. It is intended for publication with a reputed academic publisher and, upon publication, will carry an official ISBN.
About the Call
Contributions are invited from academics, legal practitioners, judicial officers, policy analysts, professionals, research scholars, postgraduate students, and researchers working in law and allied disciplines.
The volume seeks interdisciplinary contributions that engage with legal principles, institutional design, judicial practice, regulatory choices, and the lived consequences of AI deployment. Closely related proposals falling within the overall scope of the volume may also be considered.
Theme
The broad areas of inquiry include constitutional rights, due process, transparency, equality, privacy, surveillance, the rule of law, responsible AI regulation, data governance, judicial administration, legal practice, professional ethics, synthetic evidence, deepfakes, intellectual property, civil liability, consumer protection, digital markets, labour rights, gendered harms, accessibility, healthcare, education, elections, public administration, sustainable development, environmental governance, and essential public services.
Submission Categories
Theme I: Constitutional Foundations and Algorithmic Justice
Indicative sub-themes include fundamental rights in the algorithmic age; privacy, state surveillance, and AI after Puttaswamy; due process, transparency, contestability, and explainability in automated decision-making; and AI, the rule of law, constitutional morality, and institutional accountability.
Theme II: Regulatory Frameworks and Governance Models
Indicative sub-themes include AI regulation in India; the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025; sectoral governance of AI; and comparative AI governance, including the EU AI Act, current U.S. federal AI policy, and international frameworks.
Theme III: Procedural Justice, Courts, Legal Practice, and Ethics
Indicative sub-themes include AI in Indian courts and e-Courts Phase III; hallucinated precedents and fabricated citations; predictive justice and automated risk assessment; AI-enabled translation and access to justice; and synthetic evidence and deepfakes under the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.
Theme IV: Commercial Horizons – Intellectual Property, Liability, and Digital Markets
Indicative sub-themes include AI inventorship and patent law; copyright and AI-generated works; civil liability for AI-related harm; smart contracts; algorithmic trading; platform practices; and consumer protection in digital markets.
Theme V: Social Justice, Human Rights, and Algorithmic Vulnerability
Indicative sub-themes include algorithmic discrimination; gendered harms of AI; AI and labour rights; algorithmic management; workplace surveillance; human dignity; autonomy; and human-centred technological governance.
Theme VI: Emerging Frontiers, Sustainable Development, and Future Policy Reform
Indicative sub-themes include AI in healthcare, public health, education, and public administration; AI and electoral democracy; India’s AI governance architecture; global AI governance and the Global South; and AI, sustainable development, and essential public services.
Eligibility
- Academics, legal practitioners, judicial officers, policy analysts, professionals, research scholars, postgraduate students, and researchers working in law and allied disciplines may submit proposals.
- A maximum of two authors is permitted per chapter.
- Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not simultaneously under consideration for publication elsewhere.
Submission Guidelines
The abstract must be 300–400 words and clearly state the research problem, objective or research questions, proposed methodology or approach, and principal argument or expected contribution. Authors must also include 4–5 keywords.
The abstract submission must include the author’s name, designation, institutional affiliation, if any, email address, and contact number. Where there are two authors, details of both authors must be provided.
Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to submit a full chapter of 4,000–6,000 words, inclusive of footnotes. Full chapters must be submitted in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
Formatting Guidelines
The main text must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt, with 1.5 line spacing and justified alignment. Footnotes must be in Times New Roman, 10 pt, with single spacing.
Authors may use either the Bluebook citation system, 20th or 21st edition, or the Indian Law Institute footnoting style. The chosen citation system must be applied consistently. Full chapter manuscripts must be anonymised for review, with author details submitted separately.
Submissions should be written in clear academic English. Authors are encouraged to avoid unnecessary jargon and define technical terms where material to the argument.
Publication Details
Selected full chapters will undergo double-blind peer review. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in light of reviewer and editorial comments. Acceptance of an abstract does not guarantee publication of the full chapter.
The final publication decision will be made by the editorial team after considering peer-review reports, revisions, compliance with submission guidelines, source integrity, and the overall coherence of the volume.
The volume is intended for publication with a reputed academic publisher and will carry an official ISBN upon publication.
Publication Ethics and Responsible Use of Generative AI
The editorial process will assess originality, attribution, source integrity, and scholarly quality. A similarity index below 10% is ordinarily expected, excluding properly quoted material, statutory text, case titles, bibliographic material, and other legitimate matches. The similarity score will not be applied mechanically; plagiarism, inadequate attribution, or fabricated material may result in rejection irrespective of the numerical score.
Authors remain responsible for verifying all legal authorities, quotations, data, factual claims, and hyperlinks against reliable primary or authoritative sources. Generative AI and other AI-assisted tools may be used transparently and responsibly, but they cannot substitute for authorship, independent legal reasoning, source verification, or scholarly judgment. AI systems may not be listed as authors or co-authors.
Material use of generative AI must be disclosed in the AI Use Declaration submitted with the final manuscript. Authors must not upload confidential, privileged, personal, or restricted material to public AI systems without appropriate authority and safeguards.
Fees
There is no submission fee, processing charge, or publication fee at any stage.
