SHORT TRAINING COURSE ON NEGOTIATION AND MEDIATION SKILLS

_____________________________________________

About the Course

Warren Burger, Former Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, highlighted the needs of peaceful settlement and observed that, “The notion that ordinary people want black-robed judges, well dressed lawyers and fine courtrooms as settings to resolve their disputes is incorrect. People with problems, like people with pain, want relief, and they want it as quickly and as inexpensively as possible.”
The revival of Alternative Dispute Resolution (‘ADR’) Mechanisms in 21st Century in India has emerged as a torch bearer on the dark roads of justice. Globalization makes the theory and practice of alternative methods to resolve disputes increasingly important.
The avenues of ADR are promising but, there are challenges in bringing it to practice. The requisite skills for peaceful settlement of disputes are either missing or lacking amongst the Lawyers, Judges, Practitioners and the Academia.
Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, in pursuit of upholding Constitutional goals and fulfilling commitment towards the society, is dedicated to foster and promote the culture of ADR. In pursuance of its commitment to Justice Education, MNLU Mumbai in May – June 2016 conducted a 2 Credit Certificate Course on Mediation. The Course was well taken up by the participants.
