MNLU Mumbai declares End-Term results ahead of schedule in record 10 days, becomes the first NLU to do so

Tue, June 1, 2021 | Mumbai: Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai on 1st June 2021 declared the end term results of Semester X within 10 days of the end-term exam. MNLU Mumbai also becomes the first National Law University to declare the end term results when the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the examination schedule of law schools. The examination of all other semesters has also begun.

The move is also historic amid several NLUs are still iffy about conducting the final semester exams. As per the normal scheme of MNLU Mumbai, results are declared within 30 – 45 days after the exams. The move to speed up the process was to ensure that fresh graduates of MNLU Mumbai do not face any problems in their recruitment process or for pursuing higher studies abroad.

The exams of the final year were held between 12th May 2021 to 20th May 2021. It was a fully ‘open-book exam’, and candidates were allowed to consult all and any materials available to them. However, the questions were not direct and students were expected to use analysis and reasoning. The students then had to upload completed answer sheets. All papers were scanned by anti-plagiarism software.

According to Prof. (Dr.) Anil G Variath, Registrar and Controller of Examination, “The move to hold the exams has not been easy and required a fair amount of planning. It is a result of collective efforts and cooperation by administrative staff, faculty members and students. The aim was to ensure that COVID should not disrupt the future of the students, as many students have already received offers from leading law firms.”

Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey remarked, “MNLU Mumbai was the leading NLU to declare results last year as well, and the aim is to ensure that the entire programme and timetable face no disruptions due to COVID-19. Administrative delays often affect students’ future disproportionately and our effort was to ensure that we speed up the academic and administrative process to help them in their future endeavours during this tough time.”

Dr. Ukey also highlighted that MNLU Mumbai has climbed the CLAT rankings over the years and the institution has revamped the administrative process over the last two years to speed up activities related to student affairs.
