Name: Abhinav Harlalka

Year when interned: Third Year

College: WB National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata

Duration: 4 weeks

Office/ Department: Litigation

Procedure: Personal Application. [ Bharucha and Partners are strict about its internship policy and needs to have received an application 6 weeks prior to the month in which you plan to begin interning. so if you plan to intern from the 25th of October, they must receive your application 6 weeks prior to the 1st of October ]

Working days- Monday to Friday

Timings- 10 am to 7 pm. In my one month, which was quite a busy period for them, I stayed back post 12 at least 4-5 times. I remember only the first week that I managed to leave at 7. But then the kind of work you get makes up for it. So does the fact that dinner and fare back home is both on the firm.

Stipend: No

Rating on a scale of 10: 7

Firm Details:
The Firm Bharucha and Partners, since its inception in 2008 has been doing very well. They have a Corporate Law Office and a Litigation Office. They work in a wide range of areas ranging from Succession to Company Laws to International Commercial Arbitration (This is only of the Litigation office).

Experience: I for the major part of my internship, interned along with only two other interns, and hence got substantial amount of work. The interns were treated very well by everyone at the firm, be it the senior associates, associates or non-legal personnel. I even got the opportunity to attend a few arbitration hearings/ proceedings.

Areas of Law: During the internship, I got to work in a number of areas of laws- Succession Laws, SARFAESI, Companies Act, Trademarks Act to name a few.

Positives:
People! That is Definitely the first thing you’ll notice when you get there. Most of the associates are young and everyone there is really patient and helpful. Even had the opportunity to interact with one of the senior partners there, and was surprised, to be frank, with the kind of hospitality the interns received.

You might get very good work if they like your work. One of my co-interns  got drafting petitions and replies to petitions in the 3rd week of his internship.

Negatives:
Clerical Work. Expect to get quite a bit of clerical work. But I didn’t mind that at all; its in the very nature of the law firm work!

Number of Co-Interns! Apparently Bharucha and Partners has quite a few students under Solicitor agreements (or something to that effect) from the local colleges, who have been there for more than a year. I was lucky to intern at a time they were off due to their exams. Otherwise the kind of work you get MIGHT be affected.
