Through its various divisions, the Ministry works to safeguard India’s interests abroad, provide consular services, and strengthen ties with overseas Indians.
About the Opportunity
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has invited applications for the post of Consultant (Legal) in the Diaspora Engagement (DE) Division. The engagement is initially for one year, extendable based on performance, mutual willingness, and the Ministry’s requirements. The selected candidate will provide legal support in matters concerning court cases, marital disputes, child abduction cases, Indian students abroad, and legislative issues handled by the DE Division.

Job Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
- Handle court cases in which the Ministry/DE Division is a party.
- Provide legal opinions in matters relating to marital disputes, child abduction, and Indian students abroad.
- Provide legal opinions on legislative matters, including bills handled by the DE Division, such as the NRI Marriage Bill.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be an Indian citizen.
- Hold a Graduate degree in Law (LL.B.).
- Have experience of:
- 5 years’ practice before a Sessions Court, or
- 3 years’ practice before a High Court, or
- 2 years’ practice before the Supreme Court of India.
- Be 27 – 40 years of age as on the last date for submission of applications.
Desirable Qualification
Preference will be given to candidates having: Domain knowledge of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and other relevant laws of India.
Remuneration
- Up to ₹83,300 per month (subject to experience and profile).
