About the Opportunity
The Manager – Legal will be responsible for providing end-to-end legal support to all syndication related transactions across all verticals, including distribution, digital monetisation, brand partnerships, and new business initiatives.
The role requires strong commercial contracting skills, stakeholder management capability, and the ability to independently negotiate high-value deals while ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including:
- Advertising and sponsorship agreements
- Content licensing and syndication contracts (domestic & international)
- Distribution and platform agreements
- Digital monetisation, influencer, and branded content deals
- Revenue share and partnership agreements
- Ensure contracts reflect business objectives while protecting the company’s legal and commercial interests.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams such as revenue, sales, content, programming, international business, digital, finance, and operations.
- Provide actionable legal guidance on business models, pricing structures, bundling, and monetisation strategies.
- Participate in deal discussions and negotiate directly with external partners and clients.
- Identify potential legal risks in commercial transactions and advise on mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, including:
- Contract Act
- Applicable laws pertaining to advertisement revenue, distribution across linear and digital.
- IPR laws (copyrights, licensing frameworks)
- IT Act & digital content regulations
- Data privacy standards
- Work with internal teams to implement legal processes, SOPs, and contracting hygiene.
- Assist in resolving commercial disputes, claims, or breach matters.
- Support litigation or arbitration related to revenue contracts.
- Maintain organised contract repositories and trackers for renewals, expiry, and key obligations.
- Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory filings (if applicable).
- Provide periodic training to revenue teams on legal clauses, risk areas, and best practices.
Eligibility Criteria
- Experience: 6+ years
- Qualifications: LL.B from a recognised institution; LL.M preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- Excellent understanding of commercial, media, digital, and intellectual property law.
- Ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into legal frameworks.
- Stakeholder management and the ability to work in fast-paced, revenue-driven environments.
