The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), functioning under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, is inviting applications for its Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Internship Programme.

About CGPDTM
The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks is the apex authority responsible for administering intellectual property laws in India, including the Patents Act, 1970, the Trade Marks Act, 1999, and the Designs Act, 2000. It supervises the functioning of patent offices, trademark registries, GI registry, and other IP-related institutions across the country.
About the Internship
The internship programme has been launched in line with India’s National IPR Policy with the objective of promoting IP awareness, encouraging research, and strengthening human capital in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.
Interns will receive practical exposure to:
- Intellectual Property administration
- Patent, trademark, and design procedures
- Research work related to IPR
- Legal and policy aspects of intellectual property
- Government functioning in the IP ecosystem
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are invited from:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate students in Law, Science, Engineering, or related fields
- Research scholars interested in IPR
- Young professionals seeking exposure to Intellectual Property frameworks
Internship Duration
The internship may range from 45 days to 12 months, depending on availability and discretion of the CGPDTM.
The duration categories are:
- Short-term: 45 days
- Mid-term: Up to 6 months
- Long-term: Up to 12 months

- Mumbai
- Delhi
- Kolkata
- Chennai
- Ahmedabad
- Nagpur
Stipend
The internship is non-remunerative.
