About the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC)
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India is a statutory public body established on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Ordinance, 1993, and later given statutory status through the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993.
As the apex body for the protection and promotion of human rights in India, NHRC upholds the rights relating to life, liberty, equality, and dignity of the individual, as guaranteed by the Constitution and enforceable by Indian courts.
About the Opportunity
Under Section 12(h) of the PHRA, 1993, the NHRC is mandated to promote human rights literacy and awareness nationwide. In line with this objective, the Commission has announced its four-week Winter Internship Programme (WIP) 2025, scheduled from 15th December 2025 (Monday) to 9th January 2026 (Friday).
This internship offers students an opportunity to gain practical insights into the functioning of human rights institutions, engage in research, and understand the implementation challenges of human rights mechanisms in India.

If any selected intern withdraws, candidates from the waitlist may be called to join by the second day of the programme.
Eligibility Criteria

Law Students:
-
2nd or 3rd year of 3-year LL.B. course
-
4th or 5th year of 5-year Integrated BA LL.B./BBA LL.B. course
-
LL.M. students
-

Other Disciplines:
Final-year PG students in Political Science, Sociology, Social Work (MSW), Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, History, Economics, Commerce, Anthropology, Mass Communication, International Relations, or other Social Sciences are eligible. -
Must have minimum 65% marks in Class XII and all subsequent semesters.

Should be below 28 years of age as on 1 October 2025.

Only students from regular courses of UGC-recognised universities may apply.
Reservation norms as per Government of India guidelines will apply.
Selection Process
Applicants must submit a 250-word write-up on “Reason for joining as an Intern in NHRC”, which will also serve as the Statement of Purpose (SOP).
Selection will be based on:

Class XII marks (30 marks)

Graduation marks (40 marks)

Write-up (30 marks)
Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research interest in human rights issues.
