The NUJS’ class of 128 students which graduated this year secured 78 jobs on and off campus. The collective efforts and individual brilliance of the students led to this phenomenal result, with a significant chunk of students opting for recruitment bagging PPOs (Pre-placement offers) by excelling at their respective internships.
Most students were hired by the domestic law firms and ICICI Bank on Day Zero with a figure of 57, inclusive of the accepted 24 PPOs. The ‘Big 7’ contributed to 53 of these jobs and ICICI Bank recruited 4. New recruiters including Indus Partners and Singh & Associates hired from campus this year, picking three students each. Three students bagged foreign offers at Herbert Smith Freehills, Linklaters, and Allen & Overy respectively.
Five students from the batch have been offered admission for LLM at Harvard, Cambridge, NYU, LSE and Graduate Institute, whereas Mr. Aditya Prasad was offered admission for the prestigious Masters in Management program at the London Business School. Ms. Yogini Oke secured a position for the coveted Young India Fellowship.
The judicial clerkship exam results are yet to be declared; and we are hopeful and are looking forward to students being selected for the clerkship programme conducted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The batch of 2017 marginally trumped the record of the batch of 2016 in terms of total number of ‘Big 7’ jobs, with a large chunk of the batch opting to sit for competitive exams or join litigation.
Coordinator of the Campus Recruitment Committee, Mr. Apoorv Agarwal added: “The constant struggle to bring new recruiters to campus is always a hurdle, especially in Kolkata. However, the constant efforts of the CRC 2017 have led to new recruiters coming to campus. Our batch has done exceptionally well for itself, securing a large number of PPOs, ensuring that our batch secures 100% jobs for those interested in recruitments. The CRC worked diligently under the guidance of the members of the last year’s CRC and is grateful to Prateek Gupta and Adithya Iyer for having been a constant support both pre as well as post Day Zero. The workshops and mocks conducted by students of the batch of 2016 not only helped the students prepare for their very first job interviews, but also kept the morale of the entire batch high. The core committee of Day Zero constituting of both members of the Recruitment Placement Committee and the students of our batch worked day and night to make it a huge success.”
The salaries remain the same as last year with the average foreign firm package ranging from INR 38 lakhs to 44 lakhs for traineeships and the average domestic firm packages ranging from INR 8 lakhs to 18 lakhs. The firm with the highest domestic package was AZB and Partners, Mumbai.
Of course, this would not have been possible without the support of our respected Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. Ishwara Bhat, faculty advisor Ms. Vaneeta Patnaik, and all the faculty members at NUJS. CRC 2017 had the following members: Abhimanyu Hazari, Aman Bansal, Trisha Dasgupta (Coordinator), Aishwarya Mudgil, Satwik Singh and Apoorv Agarwal (Coordinator). It was a small and effective team and, yet again, had the overwhelming support of the batch, for which we all are forever indebted.
