Tuesday 28 May 2013
International Chamber of Commerce
38, Cours Albert 1er, 75008, Paris, France
This international conference on sovereign debt is essential and timely. Economic, policy and legal experts representing public and private sectors from both sides of the Atlantic will join efforts to address the top issues on the agenda of policy makers, litigators and financial institutions in relation to sovereign debt.
World class experts will address, in interactive roundtable discussions, topics such as:
- Is national or world growth still achievable when debtor countries are carrying debt stocks that exceed substantially GDP? Are there limits to a democratically-elected government’s over-indebting its country to the point of saturating its fiscal space and thus precluding further access to the market in case of emergency: financial crises, war, etc.?
- Creditor legal remedies against sovereigns: the pari-passu controversy, with representatives of hedge funds and sovereign borrowers debating their claims in a live session.
- Organizing in an orderly approach an international regime for State bankruptcy: a focus on the IMF Sovereign Debt Restructuring Mechanism and similar international initiatives.
- Litigating and arbitrating sovereign debt disputes before national courts and arbitral tribunals.
