CFP: Book on Human Rights Education (HRE) in Higher Education in India: Submit by May 31

Human rights were born along with mankind. Over the years, human rights concept has undergone a sea change, making it even more all-inclusive & relevant. To introduce human rights education in higher education, first initiative that the UGC took was the appointment of a Committee under the chairmanship of Justice S.M.Sikri.

In accordance with its mandate to develop curriculum for teaching human rights, the Committee made valuable recommendations regarding teaching of Human Rights at school, under-graduate and post-graduate levels.

Under the UGC IXth Plan Approach to Promotion of Human Rights Education (HRE) in Universities and Colleges the UGC constituted the Curriculum Development Committee to develop model curricula for Human Rights and Duties Education.

The Committee was asked to prepare curricula for PG Degree Courses, PG Diploma Courses, a short duration Certificate Course and a Foundation Course. The Committee prepared the syllabi keeping in view the annual system prevalent in most of the universities.

While the onus is on University Grants Commission to ensure that the Courses on Human Rights and Duties find a place in the University/College education in India, we have made an effort through this proposed edited book to analyze & review the status, extent, & impact of human rights in higher education. It shall be published by any of the standard publishers in the field with a valid ISBN.
