Faculty of Law, J.N.Vyas University, Jodhpur(Rajasthan)is going to organize a two day National Seminar on “Human Rights Jurisprudence and Gender Equality: Problems and prospects” on March 30-31, 2014.
Seminar Theme/ Objectives
Gender based discrimination and violence represents a global issue with varying degree. The ongoing debate to recognise the rights, privileges and claims of women, equal to their counterpart establishes this hard reality. This segment even after more than six decades of our political emancipation remains discriminated oppressed and ignored. There are a plethora of laws and constitutional promises, but the gender equality still remains a national challenge. There are various and varied factors which are responsible for pitiable condition of the fair sex, Centuries old inertia, projecting and adoring them only as embodiment of sacrifice, patriarchal domination and anti-women, social, economic and cultural mores are some of these factors. Female oppression continues from womb to tomb. However, efforts to awake them from their slumber of injustice are on. Practices like foeticide, infanticide and the constant incidents of violence constitute consistent assaults on women’s right to life and personal liberty. This seminar will have focus on development planning, law reform, budgetary allocation, policy measures to accelerate the momentum of gender equality and other concerned issues. This seminar will be serving dual purpose; firstly, it will be our objective to enrich the knowledge of the academicians through interaction with each other and to highlight Gender equality jurisprudence as an instrument of ordering and social transformation in the modern India. Secondly, in this event some strong suggestions would be given for positive reforms towards Gender Equality and Human Rights Laws regime prevailing in India so that these laws
not only meet the requirements of international commitment and revolutionary development but also to meet the needs of the Indian society as well.
Academicians, legal luminaries, law students, legal experts etc. must be well versed with the gender equality jurisprudence in changing legal scenario. Therefore, it has become imminent at this juncture, to organize a National seminar to discuss the related issues in full length. We will also publish a Souvenir of the projected Seminar. You should send your abstract for the Souvenir & full paper will be published in the seminar proceedings bearing ISBN.
