Call for Papers IIAS Seminar on Transgression; Submit by 15th July

The phenomenon of transgression has always been both fascinating and enigmatic. It is fascinating because it stems from human longing for freedom to live life on one’s own terms and the consequent urge to cross boundaries and subvert limitations. The notion of transgression also brings into play notions of resistance, will, risk, and courage.

In most of the recent studies on transgression, it is seen in such contexts as transgression and taboo, transgression and graffiti, transgressive cinema, transgressive art, transgression and crime, and so on. The underlying claim in all these is to question all the taboos of our age and this act of questioning and the consequent breaking is seen as act of courage that is termed as transgression. Transgression in today’s imagination is an agency of transformation to approach freedom. This seminar intends to reflect on the conceptual issues involved in this form of imagining transgression.

A limited number of participants will be invited for the seminar. Those interested in participating should send a synopsis (700 words) of the proposed paper along with their C.V. and a covering letter latest by 15 July 2014 to both the address mentioned below:
