Registration

LawLeague is pleased to announce the 1st Law League National Essay Writing Competition, 2018. The objective of the competition is to grow awareness, knowledge and spread opinions on contemporary legal issues across different parts of India. The competition is conceived to encourage law students to write about contemporary legal issues existing in the country and its scope in the present scenario. The application is open to all students enrolled in post-graduate or undergraduate from any recognized university/college across India, research scholars in field of law and practicing lawyers.

There is Rs. 200 registration fee for the competition.
The participants must register themselves by sending a mail to [email protected] The receipt of the payment must be sent along with the registration mail.

THEME

The competition shall accept papers on contemporary legal issues existing in the world currently.

ELIGIBILITY

The application is open to all students enrolled in undergraduate or post-graduate courses from any recognized university/college across India, research scholars in the field of law and practicing lawyers.

AWARD CATEGORIES

First prize: ₹ 5,000 cash + Certificate of Merit
Second Prize: ₹ 3,000 cash + Certificate of Merit
Third Prize: ₹ 2,000 cash + Certificate of Merit
Moreover, the eligible candidates shall be selected for the internships through a separate screening process, which shall be open to the authors/co-authors of top ten submissions. The selected candidates at the end of the screening process will be getting an assured internship, in accordance with their rank, at the following places:
1. Top Law firms Internship;
2. Legal Internships (High Court & Supreme Court Advocates)
3. NGOs

The screening process would comprise of an interdisciplinary assessment process wherein the individual candidates shall be assessed cumulatively on their Curriculum Vitae and their Statement of Purpose (200 words). Furthermore, good papers shall be referred for publication in an ISSN Journal ‘International Journal of Constitutional Studies’ (ISSN 2456-5008).

Word Limit: 1500 to 2,500 words (Exclusive of footnotes and abstract).

Submission Guidelines

1. General

Submissions may be only in the form of essays and should be in English.

2. Word Limit:

The word limit should be 1,500 to 3,000 words. The word limit mentioned here is exclusive of footnotes and abstract. Please note that the word limits will be strictly enforced.

3. Abstract:

Every submission should be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 200 words providing a summary of the contribution.

4. Format:

Law Orbis Essay writing Competition does not follow any particular style of referencing but the authors must strictly ensure uniform style citation in the paper. Speaking footnotes are strictly prohibited. The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, size 12 with 1.5 spacing. The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, size 10 with single spacing.

5. Anonymity of Authors:

The manuscript must not contain any indication of the identity of the author or the college, university, institutions etc. Biographical information of the authors is to be provided in a separate document, including the following details: name, qualifications, e-mail address and postal address.

6. Authorship:

Submissions are invited from undergraduate and graduate students, industry practitioners, academicians and research scholars. Submissions may be co-authored, although by a maximum of two authors. There is no requirement for the co-authors to be from the same college/institution/ university/school.

7. Deadline:

The last date for submission is 15 October, 2018 (Monday ).

8. Submission:

Please send your submissions as a .doc or .docx file and biographical information in a separate document with the subject title LO ESSAY: “Topic of the Essay”.

9. Plagiarism:

Only original essays will be considered for the competition. No part of it should have been published earlier nor should it be under consideration for publication or a contest elsewhere. Any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification of the paper.

Evaluation Scheme for Internships

The top 20 participants shall be evaluated on the basis of their CV and their statement of purpose.
The statement of purpose and CV will carry 50 marks each and internships will be allotted on

The SOP is to be written in line with the interest of the student to intern under any of the following options :

The SOP must highlight the objectives and aspirations of the individual behind wanting to intern in any of the aforementioned organisations and must also state as to how does the individual believe the internship would assist him in sharpening his skills required to excel in the legal field or the field that the individual wants to get success in.
